ARSENIO RODRIGUEZ PROJECT, is an All-Star Ensemble of today’s top LA musicians, designed to continue the legacy and to pay tribute to Arsenio Rodriguez, called by historians the father of salsa.

The Ensemble came together for the first time in 2011 to honor Arsenio Rodriguez on his 100th birthday anniversary, presenting the original arrangements of the man many credit with being one of Afro-Cuban music's greatest innovators.

ABOUT ARSENIO RODRIGUEZ
Arsenio Rodríguez (born Ignacio Arsenio Travieso Scull; 31 August 1911 – 30 December 1970) was a Cuban  musician, composer and bandleader. He played the TRES GUITAR, as well as the conga drums and he specialized in SON, RUMBA and other Afro-Cuban music styles.

 

In the 1940s and 1950s Rodríguez reorganized the SON conjunto ("son group") and developed the SON MONTUNO, the basic template of modern-day SALSA. He claimed to be the true creator of MAMBO and was an important as well as a prolific composer who wrote more than twelve hundred songs.
